BiSigma Software Suite

Additional Value to Eye Tracking

Eye-tracking technology has become an important research tool in recent years. The ability to track the eye movements of test subjects opens up new possibilities in many areas, from marketing research to medical diagnostics. It is the ability to measure visual perception without the subjects being able to actively influence it. It is a method that is based purely on observation and provides a variety of data that can contribute to the interpretation of visual perception processes.

And this data can become even more valuable when collected in conjunction with other physiological data. Synchronous collection of data such as EEG, ECG and skin conductance, to name a few, can lead to a deeper understanding and provide new insights into the relationships between visual perception and physical responses.

The BiSigma Software Suite defines a new approach to this combination of eye tracking and the measurement of physiological data. Based on a highly modular plugin architecture, the software is open to add additional recording devices as well as processing and calculation methods going far behind the standards. The interfaces of the BiSigma Software Suite are open, so everyone can customize the software to his own needs. Scripting is possible via the popular scripting languages R and Python.

BiSigma Analyzer – Eye Tracking

The BiSigma Analyzer uses a tree-based user interface to handle each single step of analysis. Individual views are available on each step of the processing tree.

The BiSigma Analyzer supports basic eye tracking views like gaze path and heatmaps for individual and grouped data.

Fixations can be calculated using different algorithms and displayed as animations.

The representation of fixation paths is possible both for individual subjects and for comparisons between different subjects and groups.

Heatmaps can be displayed with numerous parameters and color models.

Inverse heatmaps are also possible to focus on the regions under consideration.

Areas of interest can be defined in various forms in an integrated tool. AOIs can be static for images and dynamic for video sequences. AOIs can also be grouped for joint analysis.

Metrics and results of calculations are displayed in a spreadsheet-based table in the software. Current metrics are: Time to First Fixation, Fixations Before, First Fixation Duration, Total Fixation Duration, Fixation Count, Return Rate.

A tree-based macro concept enables automation and batch processing in a simple graphical manner. This allows even large projects with numerous test subjects to be analyzed quickly and automatically.

BiSigma Analyzer – much more than Eye Tracking

Following the tradition of the well-established Biometric Software Suite, the BiSigma Analyzer not only supports the analysis of eye tracking data. There already exist importer for EEG, GSR, ECG and acceleration/movement data together with individual views and analysis methods like extraction of heartrate and detection and analysis of skin reaction patterns.

Importing video files from webcams, for example, also makes it possible to recognize and classify emotions based on facial expressions. A classification of emotions related to audio files (“Think aloud”) is in preparation.

Analysis of motion data from IMU sensors.

Analysis of emotions from facial expression data via webcam videos.

BiSigma Analyzer - EEG

Since its discovery in 1924, a variety of methods for recording, filtering and analyzing these signals have been developed. The most popular methods are included in the BiSigma Software Suite:

  • Filtering,
  • Eye artifact removement,
  • Frequency analysis,
  • Epochs and analysis of event related potentials and evoked potentials.

Analysis of EEG data from devices from different manufacturers.

Synchronization

There are a large number of software products that enable individual aspects of the evaluation of some of the signals mentioned above. However, the great potential of the evaluation of physiological signals, which goes far beyond the analysis of individual signals, only lies in the joint synchronous post-analysis.

The BiSigma Software Suite enables the time-synchronous merging of all measured data within milliseconds up to a joint statistical evaluation.
